Mid Winter's Day

To celebrate mid winters day, and as part of our measurement for Maths, Room 1 made vegetable soup and bread rolls. We all brought along a vegetable and chopped or grated it into the soup. We let it cook for a long time!. Next we made bread rolls. We had to weigh the white flour and wholemeal flour and then check our weights on the electronic scales. Next we measured the yeast, salt and milk powder. Then we put in golden syrup, margarine and warm water. We put the ingredients into the breadmaker and it took 45 minutes to make the dough. We had to use our fractions knowledge to cut the dough.. First we cut it in half, then into quarters and then we cut each quarter into thirds! We cooked them in batches of 12 ( 3 rows of 4). We made three batches, so that was 36 buns altogether. We all loved the bread and most of us loved the soup.

Fun Measurement in Maths

As part of our Maths measurement activities we have been using scales to weigh things. We had to see how much weight we could could out into a supermarket bag before it broke the handles. We needed to put a very large rock in before it broke!! Other activities were making cuboids and using our multiplication knowledge to find the volume of a box. We also used scales to find the combined weight of our group and had to fill empty containers so they weighed the same as it said on the packet. We are getting very good at reading scales!

Athletics Team Event

On Friday 6th May some Macandrew Bay children went with Mr Mitchell to the Edgar Centre to take part in a fun sports day. Some of the activities were throwing the vortex, an obstacle course and a game like hop scotch. We really really enjoyed it and same second overall. We were really proud of our team.
